Manitoba Sky Monday, January 30/17

Last week's sky had some amazing clouds!
I took these over the course of a few days...
starting on Wednesday.

January Journal

The month of January has brought us everything from blizzard conditions with high winds and blowing snow, to frigid temperatures dipping down to - 47 with the windchill, to balmy spring time weather, bright blue skies, and then rain and fog. Only in Manitoba, eh?

Garden Arbour in the snow

A snowy start to the month
Early in January we had high winds and blowing snow.
Fortunately, we were on the edge of the storm,
and didn't get the snow others did.

Sparkling snowbanks after the storm
The winds left beautiful, sparkling snowbanks that resembled sand dunes.

The dog is enjoying the snow
The dogs loved playing on the snowbanks
that allowed them to see over the fence.

Mid-January, Brian took a drive south of Shilo,
then headed west, collecting photos along the way.
The things he does for his wife!

The warm weather continued into the third week.
These photos were taken January 21st.

Walking in deep snow through garden arbour
You can see how deep the snow is around our garden arbour.
I think the dogs were worried when I started to sink!

Trampoline snow fort
The neighbour kids have made a snow fort under their trampoline.

Who needs to go for a drive to find deer, when they come right into the yard?

Everyone is enjoying this nice reprieve from winter, but real winter weather will be back soon, I'm sure...In the meantime, it's been wonderful!

Manitoba Wildlife

This is Part 2 of a series of posts featuring the photography of Brent Sharp. Spending time in our beautiful Manitoba Parks, as well as some northern communities, have provided Brent with an opportunity to photograph some of our wildlife.

Cinnamon Coloured Bear, Clear Lake (back country)
The coat colour of black bears is commonly black.
However, it can range from blond, cinnamon or light brown
to dark chocolate including many intermediate colour combinations.

Brent Sharp lives in Winnipeg, with his wife, Gwen, and their son, Jacob. He's a carpenter by trade, but says he felt the need for a hobby that was not related to woodworking.

In 1988, he got is first camera, an old 35 mm, from a pawn shop, by trading his time. He learned photography through reading and a lot of practice. Thirteen years ago, he got his first DSLR. By this time, he had come to realize that he could use photography to express himself. He took literally, the expression, "A picture paints a thousand words."

Brent says he's always looking for an adventure, and something new to challenge himself with. He can never get enough of the outdoors....as we can see from his photography! His travels have taken him to Europe, Mexico, the US, and from coast to coast to coast.

Brent now works as a teacher, training other carpenters. He's kept his passion for woodworking, but photography is slowly taking over. He's always trying to create more behind the camera than behind the computer. His own studio is now on the horizon, and his goal is to share something new with people every week. You can follow him on Instagram- bgassociates
