Foster Adoption Story My Isaac

Stop focusing on circumstances and look to God's word.

An excerpt from my book:

Taking my hands off of the situation proved to be easier said than done! When the planned move for our two girls fell through, and another home that could accommodate both girls was not found, the decision was made to temporarily separate them. In spite of having lived with us for over a year, the older sister happily went off on a new adventure with strangers. The younger one had formed a much stronger attachment to us, and sending her to a different home, by herself, was just more than I could bring myself to do. This couldn’t possibly be God’s will for her! I once again began to second guess what the Lord was asking of us. Were we to keep this little girl until her future could be settled; either with her own family or with an adoptive family? Were we supposed to be that family? I couldn’t understand why she had been left with us, knowing that it might take a year for the agency to make a decision on her life. It would have been so simple if God had just worked it out for both girls to move together!

You would think I’d have learned by now that ‘simple’ isn’t the way God works things in my life! Could that be because I am so slow in listening to what I know he is telling me? Nearly a year had passed from the time I had written the words, “Not my will, but thine Lord.” Eight months had passed since I had written, “My Isaac,” and it had been over three months since I had determined to ‘take my hands off.’ I truly believed that I had taken my hands off and that now I was just waiting for God to work out all the details.

It seemed that the time had come to finally close our door, but why was this little girl still here? Could it be that her name was Isaac?

Not My will? Taking my hands off? I needed to stop focusing on circumstances and look to God's word.

Proverbs 16:2,3,9,20 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits. Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps. He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
