Since my theme for January is Start Well, Persevere, Finish Well, what better way to start the year than to commit to meditating on 52 promises from God over the next 12 months?
As I was thinking about what scripture I would choose for the coming year, I realized how complacent I had become; that I had stopped expecting great and mighty answers to prayer. As I mentioned in my previous post here, I started to think about the promises of God. I did some research and discovered there are thousands! I decided to look specifically at the promises contained in the Psalms, starting in Psalm 1 and posting one each week. I'm also writing these verses out on a card, hoping that will help me to memorize them!
The first promises are found in Psalm 1:1-3
V.1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
God will bless me if I choose His way. When I reject the evil way; the counsel of the ungodly, the way of sinners, the place of the scornful, I'm blessed.
But the key is this,
V.2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night."
God's blessings come from my obedience. When my delight is in God's word, and I take the time to meditate on it and to hear from God, I'm blessed.
V.3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
May I be like that tree planted by the rivers of water, sending my roots deep that my life will be full and fruitful and flourish under God's blessing, that I might glorify Him in all that I do.
I hope you'll join me next week for another Promise From the Psalms.
