Promises from Psalms; Psalm 18:30

Again, in Psalm 18, David is calling on God in his distress. Throughout the earlier verses, he recounts his situation and God's response and he continues to speak of the character and righteousness of God.

Psalm 18:30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

Psalm 18:30

As for God, his way is perfect:

There is no doubt in David's mind that whatever God does, or chooses to do in any situation, his way is perfect.

the word of the LORD is tried:

Much like last week's promise, God's word is like the silver, tried in a furnace of earth. David knows he can depend on God's word to be true.

he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

David knows when he goes into a battle that his buckler, will protect him from the enemy. Through much use, he has proven it over and over. In the same way, he knows from past experience that he can trust God to protect him. God is his protection. Nothing can get to David, that God does not allow.

Meaning of the word buckler in this verse.

From the online Strong's Concordance: H4043
Definition: a shield (i.e., the small one or buckler); figuratively, a protector; also the scaly hide of the crocodile
Original Hebrew: מָגֵ֥ן maw-ɡANE

God's way is perfect, His word is tried; he is my protector.

I can have this same faith in God. No matter what comes in this life, I can know that if God has allowed it, then it is for a purpose because his way is perfect. It might not be something I would have chosen for myself, but God knows best. With Him, I can walk through any ordeal, trusting his word as my guide, knowing that he will protect me.
Join me again next week as I look at another promise from Psalms.
