With Easter just around the corner, we're continuing the theme of Celebrating New Life, with the focus on this portion of scripture: Psalm 40:1-5, in particular, verse 3. How wonderful it is to know and to trust the Lord!
Psalm 40:3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord."
The context of Psalm 40:3 is a picture of what Jesus did when he came into my life.
Psalm 40:1-5
I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord. Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
Last month I shared my testimony; the story of how the Lord made my life new in Spring Brings New Life. The Lord had indeed put a new song in my mouth! I couldn't help but share the good news with friends, but many years later he put a new song in my mouth in a more literal sense.
God put it on my heart to write a song.
In 1995, I wrote my first song lyrics. Initially, I had written a song about foster children. I asked my daughter, Dana, to compose some music for my lyrics. Before long she had a beautiful melody. A short time later, I decided to write Christian lyrics for the music Dana had composed. I had always liked to write but had never written lyrics before. I soon discovered it was a wonderful way to express my thoughts about the Lord, and to share my faith.
Since then, I've written over 100 songs; songs of worship, songs that minister to people going through times of struggle, and songs to celebrate special occasions. It is my hope and prayer that my songs are a blessing and an encouragement to others, that they bring glory to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and that they might be used to draw others to the Lord.
For the next two weeks, I'm sharing songs that focus on this Easter season.
- Health Update (The last week switches to an update of my wellness journey.)
This is that first song we wrote together:
My God, My Strength

I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me,
my God, my strength.
He is always there to guide me, if I will turn to him.
And I thank him and I praise him, for all that he has done.
Jesus is my Saviour; he took my sin.

The Lord is my rock; he is my shield
my God, my strength.
The Lord is my light, my salvation.
Whom shall I fear?
I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised.
Early will I seek him, and he will hear.
In him we have redemption;
forgiveness of our sins,
for he shed his blood on Calvary,
that we might live through him.
He has sent his Holy Spirit to guide us every day,
and his word abides forever, and lights for us the way.
my God, my strength.
He is always there to guide me, if I will turn to him.
And I thank him and I praise him, for all that he has done.
Jesus is my Saviour; he took my sin.
In him we have redemption;
forgiveness of our sins,
for he shed his blood on Calvary,
that we might live through him.
He has sent his Holy Spirit to guide us every day,
and his word abides forever, his word abides forever,
his word abides forever, and lights for us the way.
